Vail, Colo., May 4, 2026 — The Vail Valley Theatre Company (VVTC) announced today that tickets are now on sale for its highly anticipated summer production of Jonathan Larson's RENT, running June 18–21, 2026, at the Cascade Theater at Grand Hyatt Vail.
RENT is one of the most celebrated and emotionally resonant musicals in Broadway history. Set in New York City in the early 1990s, the show follows a group of artists and friends struggling to pay RENT, pursue their dreams, and care for one another in the shadow of the AIDS crisis. Inspired by Puccini's opera La Bohème, the show features an iconic rock score and earned the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and four Tony Awards, including Best Musical, before becoming one of the longest-running shows on Broadway.
Audiences are invited to experience this landmark work brought to life by one of the Vail Valley's most talented ensembles, under the direction of a creative team with deep roots in professional theater.
“Although RENT opened on Broadway 30 years ago, its themes celebrating love, community, friendship, and loss amidst the struggles of poverty, addiction, social inequity, and artistic integrity still resonate strongly in the world of today,” said Mike Monroney, the production’s Director. “This challenging piece helped define a new generation, and it's a thrill and a privilege for us to get to tell this story in the Vail Valley.”
“We're so excited to bring this groundbreaking musical to the Vail Valley,” said Beth Kuntz, Artistic Director for the Vail Valley Theatre Company. “We have an incredibly talented local cast, and the artistic team are theatre professionals and friends who have been working together for over 30 years. It's an honor and a true labor of love to bring this wonderful group of people together on such an iconic show. We’re so grateful to the Grand Hyatt, Discover Vail, Altitude AV, Katheryn Hanley, and John Lichtenegger for their commitment to the arts and for supporting the Vail Valley Theatre Company.”
