Valley View’s Rocky Mountain Urology Center Offers New Transperineal Prostate Biopsy, Providing Reduced Infection Risk and Better Experience for Men

VVP Press Releases

Valley View’s Rocky Mountain Urology Center, the most comprehensive urology group in the Rockies and Western Slope, is pleased to now offer the new, state-of-the-art transperineal prostate biopsy at the Valley View Surgery Center at Basalt. This biopsy procedure is the superior approach to diagnose prostate cancer.

An alternative to the transrectal approach, the minimally invasive transperineal prostate biopsy procedure significantly reduces the risk of infection. Rocky Mountain Urology Center performs the prostate biopsy with state-of-the-art, 3D MRI/ultrasound fusion-guided technology. It has proven to result in higher detection rates of prostate cancer than other prostate biopsy techniques.

Rocky Mountain Urology Center is now offering the advanced procedure at Valley View’s new surgery center in Basalt, as well as Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs.

“The transperineal prostate biopsy approach we offer at Rocky Mountain Urology Center is a major advancement in urology and prostate cancer care,” said Aashish Kabra, MD, board-certified urologist at Valley View’s Rocky Mountain Urology Center. “Men with elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels — a possible sign of prostate cancer or other prostate problems — can now receive this minimally invasive procedure at the new state-of-the-art Valley View Surgery Center.”

Comprising Jamie Lowe, MD, Aashish Kabra, MD, Scott Castle, MD, Stephen Williams, MD and Nurse Practitioner Ashley Gilley, ANP, Rocky Mountain Urology Center is the only full-time urology practice in the region. With locations in Aspen, Basalt, Eagle, Rifle, and Glenwood Springs, offering clinics in multiple locations reduces travel and wait times for patients. The center’s physicians are experts in general urology and have subspecialty experience in urologic cancers, female urology and kidney stone disease.
