Mauricio Bolivar: Championing Housing Access Through Leadership and Innovation

Community News

At Habitat for Humanity Vail Valley, we believe in the power of people to lead change in their communities—and our colleague Mauricio Bolivar is living proof of that. This year, Mauricio (Mo) completed the Family Leadership Training Institute (FLTI), a transformative civic leadership program designed to empower community members with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to become effective advocates for children, families, and neighbors. Mo is also a community connector with his role in Building Futures, where works to help community members receive the services beyond housing. If these needs are addressed the families/individuals are likely to thrive, the community fabric will be strengthened and systemic inequities decline.

FLTI brings together a diverse cohort of local leaders from all walks of life to explore topics like public policy, equity, civic engagement, and grassroots organizing. Over the course of the program, participants reflect on their own leadership potential, build relationships across communities, and develop hands-on projects to address local issues they’re passionate about.

For his FLTI project, Mauricio created the “Interactive Rental Resource Map,” a one-stop digital tool designed to simplify the rental search process in Eagle County. With housing access being a core issue for so many working families in our valley, Mauricio’s map helps people quickly find and compare rental resources, improving access to information and reducing barriers to stable housing. His project embodies the values of both FLTI and Habitat: community-driven, practical, and deeply rooted in a desire to make housing more accessible for everyone.

Reflecting on his experience, Mauricio shared: “FLTI opened my eyes to how systems work—and how I can be a part of changing them. It gave me the tools to turn frustration into action and showed me I’m not alone in wanting to make a difference.” That sums up Mo — always willing to give a hand and help make someone’s else’s day, or life, a bit brighter. His enthusiasm and compassion shine through every day.

We’re incredibly proud of Mauricio and the FLTI Class of 2025. His leadership, compassion, and determination are making a real impact—not just within Habitat, but across the broader community.
