Local College Counselor Earns Prestigious Credential, Embarks on Extensive College Tour to Maintain Certification
Lindsey Myers of Myers Educational Consulting has proudly earned the prestigious designation of Certified Educational Planner (CEP). To uphold this rigorous credential and continue providing unparalleled guidance to her students, Myers, accompanied by her beloved business mascot, Zephyr, recently completed an extraordinary cross-country road trip, visiting 25 colleges across the heartland of the United States.
Why did Myers want to achieve this designation?
In her own words: "Having grown up in the 'Grand County Bubble’ in Winter Park, Colorado, I intimately understand the barriers students in rural Colorado encounter when envisioning their futures. My passion lies in proactively supporting high school students, particularly in Eagle County, by demystifying the college application process and unveiling a world of possibilities they might not know exist. I believe that with the right guidance, every student can transcend their perceived limitations and unlock extraordinary opportunities."
Myers Educational Consulting provides comprehensive college and career guidance to students and student-athletes throughout rural Colorado. The profession of educational consulting is growing in importance and recognition, as the need for post-secondary education and other options increase in today’s society. Certification is granted to those consultants and counselors who meet rigorous application requirements, including specialized training, significant professional experience, and involvement in professional activities and organizations. Lindsey has passed a board-certified examination, received professional references, and has pledged to adhere to stringent ethical practices.
“We are proud to have Lindsey receive this certification,” said Chris Bell, Chair of the American Institute of Certified Educational Planners (AICEP). “This certification sets the standard for professional educational planners in knowledge, experience, and ongoing professional development. There is no higher mark of distinction in the profession,” he noted.
To maintain her newly acquired CEP designation, Myers is required to visit a minimum of 70 colleges every five years. This commitment to ongoing professional development prompted her comprehensive collegiate tour with Zephyr, her canine companion and Myers Educational Consulting's unofficial mascot. This ambitious road trip, which saw them visit 25 institutions, is a testament to her dedication to understanding the diverse landscape of higher education firsthand.
The duo kicked off their adventure in Lubbock, TX, then made a stop in Dallas, TX, before navigating through Louisiana to Oxford, MS, and Tuscaloosa, AL, before exploring Auburn, AL, and Atlanta, GA. The second leg of their journey took them from Knoxville, TN, to Nashville, TN, then north to St. Louis, MO, and Columbia, MO, finally concluding in Lawrence, KS, and Manhattan, KS.
Throughout their extensive travels, Zephyr and Lindsey eagerly visited the following esteemed institutions:
- Texas Tech University

“Certified educational consultants and counselors are remarkable,” noted Bell. “This group of professionals have demonstrated a high level of commitment to ongoing professional learning,” he concluded.
The CEP Program began in 1994 under the sponsorship of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), an association representing experienced professionals in the field of college/educational/school/therapeutic program placements. “The CEP designation assures families that they are working with a qualified professional who is committed to maintaining the highest quality of service to their students,” said Mark Sklarow, Former CEO of IECA.
