Community News Economic Update

The recent release of Colorado’s employment data was more of a trick than a treat. MOM Colorado wage and salary jobs increased by only 2,400, and the unemployment rate increased to 4.1%. YOY employment was only 11,200 greater than a year ago. The good news (or the treat) is that the monthly and yearly data were positive.

Detailed charts and data were prepared for 19 sectors and subsectors. Eight of the 19 sectors showed job gains (another trick). Healthcare was the leading sector, followed by Accommodations and Food Services. Combined, they added 23,300 workers on a YOY basis (another treat).

This month, information was also compiled about population, employment, GDP, and the state budget. The purpose was to see how changes in these four areas might affect the willingness of people and businesses to stay in Colorado or move elsewhere. Colorado has many great stories to tell, but so do other states.

Hope you have more treats than tricks on Halloween and that the next job report is more upbeat!
