What inspired you to start your business or organization? My company originally started as a small line of textiles that I made in collaboration with indigenous artisans in Mexico. I was inspired by my high school study abroad in Mexico and wanted to give back to a place that opened its arms to me when I was young and vulnerable. I sold wholesale to boutiques nationwide, eventually opening my first shop by winning free rent in a entrepreneurial contest.
How would you describe your business in one sentence? Alpine Kind is a one-of-a-kind retail experience featuring our custom hat bar and eclectic apparel for you and your people.
What makes doing business in the Vail Valley unique? Owning a retail store in Vail means we are more than purveyors of goods, we are stewards of the land around us. We get to be tour guides on a daily basis, suggestion restaurants, hikes, adventures and how to take care of the land around us. What motivates you personally or professionally? My kids motivate me forever and always. I want to show them that anything is possible when you are passionate and work hard.
What’s something your business can’t operate without? A torch! Our hat bar has taken off and it is so fun to brand them with initials and symbols, making them unique to anyone else's hat.
What’s one thing your team is proud of that people may not see behind the scenes? Our growing group hat business has exploded. This year, we pulled off our biggest corporate event yet, making 272 hats in under 3 hours. Our staff may be small, but they sure are mighty!
