Building with Vail Resorts has become a Habitat Vail Valley tradition
The Vail Resorts team will move mountains at the Habitat for Humanity Vail Valley job site next week.
Thursday, September 12 will be a day of celebrating partnerships, affordable homeownership and community building. After a year of helping build their homes, eight new homeowners will receive the keys to their houses at Stratton Flats in Gypsum. Everyone is invited to commemorate this special day alongside Beaver Creek Mountain and Vail Resorts employees who will have spent the week building home and hope. Each day upwards of 25 mountain employees will use their mountain-made skills to bring home one step closer to reality.
“Our partnership with Habitat for Humanity Vail Valley is incredibly important. The Annual Gary Shimanowitz Memorial Build Week is about more than just construction, it’s about coming together as a community to build hope and opportunity,” says Bobby Murphy, CEO of Beaver Creek Mountain. “Seeing the camaraderie and dedication from our Beaver Creek and Vail Mountain teams during this week is inspiring, and I’m proud to be part of this effort to create stable, affordable homes right here in our community.”
This will be the third year in a row that Vail Resorts has hosted a volunteer build week, helping more families build strong foundations.
“The five-year, $350,000 commitment from Vail Resorts is key to helping us double our impact from 2022 to 2024. These eight homes bring to completion our 46 homes, helping retain community,” says Elyse Howard, Habitat Vail Valley’s vice president of community affairs and philanthropy.
Habitat for Humanity approaches building homeownership in a unique way, relying on volunteers and homeowners who work alongside staff to build permanently affordable homes.
Habitat homeowners are special in that they help build their homes and the homes of their neighbors, creating strong community bonds from the start. In any given neighborhood, children bike on the street, parents gather for impromptu barbeques, and they naturally help each other out.
"Home is all about community. Words can't fully express how proud I am to be part of creating a stable home in partnership with families who strengthen the fabric of our community. Each week I work alongside new homeowners and get to be part of their journey towards stability," says Doug Amberg, director of construction.
After the home dedication ceremony, stay for a free community dinner hosted by Vail Resorts EpicPromise, Vail and Beaver Creek Mountains and Habitat Vail Valley.
