2024 Independent Liquor Store & On-Premise Retailer Legislation
Colorado Independent Liquor Stores United has introduced a bill in the state house of representatives that will throw a lifeline to independent liquor stores and the craft beverage industry that depends on them. The bill addresses the predatory practices of the large chain stores and lack of concern for public health and community safety. The bipartisan bill is outlined here.
Independent liquors stores are facing a dire time as large chains and corporations are using unfair and potentially illegal practices to put us out of business. Many are closing, many are up for sale and many are barely hanging on. For years, the craft beverage industry and the independent liquor store have worked together to create and support a vibrant industry in the State of Colorado. Entrepreneurs have created amazing products and the independent liquor store has provided them with the opportunity to introduce and sell them to the consumer in a safe and controlled environment. Together we have created a livelihood for local farmers, producers, growers, distributors and tourism. Without the independent liquor store and the sales channel we provide for all of these products, we will all suffer.
We are asking you to support passage of the bill by reaching out to your state representatives. Click here for sample letters to your state representatives asking for their support of the bill that can be copied, customized and emailed.
You can also join us at the state capitol on April 4th at 1:30 to show support and, if you are a liquor store, testify about how Proposition 125 has impacted you and your business and how the passage of HB-1373 can help you. If you cannot be there in person, there will be an option to testify remotely.
