- Position Summary
Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Youth Engagement, this full-time salaried position supports the mission of the organization by building youth leadership and advising opportunities, developing pro-social events with high school-aged youth and supporting youth passion projects. This position works closely with young people, ensuring a youth-led, adult supported framework in all initiatives.
Mountain Youth Team Member Expectations
Be a champion for youth and advocate for policies, practices, and efforts that support their overall healthy development
Leverage opportunities to develop impactful partnerships
Ensure youth, young adults, and family members are recognized as valued partners in our work and in the community
Maintain positive staff and board relations
Support in fundraising efforts and sustainability strategies to maintain the overall work of the organization
Participate in regular Mountain Youth one-on-one, team and committee meetings to align different efforts and resources across the organization
Understand and model the Positive Youth Development Principles
Represent Mountain Youth through collaborative projects as needed
Serve as an ambassador for Mountain Youth programs, contributing to community education, safe driving strategies, Communities That Care, and Mountain Youth in public forums such as community events and municipal meetings
Maintain Mountain Youth internal database and tracking systems in a timely manner
Ensure completion of program evaluation and assessment activities
Support with other Mountain Youth projects, newsletter and communication strategies, and events
Exhibit a willingness and commitment to participate in trainings and other professional development
Perform other duties as assigned
- Program Oversight and Facilitation
- Focus Area 1: In-school Facilitation of Prevention Education Programs
Collaborate with local schools to explain and schedule in-school prevention programming, including life skills, substance use prevention, young driver safety education and additional prevention programs, as identified by community assessments, to students primarily of high school aged, supporting younger grades as needed and available.
Facilitate early intervention programs to support youth in making low-risk decisions
Work with community partners, school contacts, and other program facilitators to increase collaboration related to in-school programs
Work with colleagues, partners and evaluation consultants to administer and track evaluation tools
Attend trainings to support program development, facilitation and evaluation skills, facilitating with fidelity evidence-based in-school prevention programming
Coordinate program supplies and materials to fulfill each program
Coordinate a driver’s education scholarship program, working with a small team to manage funds, applications, and ensure connection of youth and families to driver’s education
Focus Area 2: Valley’s Voice High School Youth Leadership and Engagement
Engage high school youth voice through recruitment, meeting facilitation, prosocial activity planning, project facilitation, and diverse, creative engagement efforts
Serve as a conduit between 9-12 grade youth programming at Mountain Youth, partners, and the community at large
Facilitate a youth leadership development framework
Help to identify and address protective factors (strengths) and risk factors (needs) facing local youth and families in the community
Work with schools and partners to identify, steer and connect community members with local and national resources (individuals, agencies and other resources) to build collaboration, trust, knowledge and skills
Support students in reviewing local youth behavioral health data, identifying key needs and trends, and developing social norms campaign messaging to promote positive behaviors
Review, share, and incorporate data into program planning and implementation as needed
Additional Qualifications:
- Commitment to positive youth, family, and community development, and overall community health and safety
- Experience working with youth in secondary education, community engagement, or youth development preferred, or an equivalent combination of experience and training
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, typically several times per month
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, growing organization
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with diverse youth
- High level of professionalism with excellent written, verbal, and listening skills
- Creative, adaptable, and responsive to youth priorities and emerging needs
- Comfortable engaging with diverse community partners and stakeholders
- Strong facilitation, organization, planning, and consensus-building skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and social media platforms
- Bilingual English/Spanish and bicultural preferred
- Willingness to travel throughout the Eagle River Valley and occasionally regionally for meetings, programs, and events
Salary and Benefits:
This is a full-time salary position primarily based out of the Mountain Youth offices (Eagle and Edwards) with an opportunity for flexible scheduling. The position will perform duties outside of normal working hours. The salary range is $58,000-$62,400 and will be commensurate with experience. A generous benefits package is available including paid time off, paid professional development, flexible and remote work scheduling opportunities, health and dental insurance, and more. This position is a bilingual preferred position. Applicants who demonstrate written and verbal competency are eligible for a $1/hour pay incentive.
