Specialist - Teen Services
The Library Teen Specialist coordinates and assists with the planning and presentation of library activities for children aged 12 - 18. The specialist incorporates competencies outlined by YALSA, in collaboration with the Teen Librarian. The specialist also provides customer service to patrons including processing new library cards, check-in & check-out of materials, collection of money for fees and other duties as assigned. Teamwork, communication and personal accountability are essential to the success of this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform library tasks during assigned customer service desk rotations
- Maintain library shelf materials and keep public areas tidy
- Assist patrons with standard library services
- Assist patrons with library computer navigation, troubleshooting library device hardware issues, and introducing digital resources
- Support staff with opening and closing procedures for both the library branch and outreach vehicles
- Complete monthly check-in meeting with supervisor
- Plan and conduct teen programming as assigned
- Engage with Project Outcome data and assessment tools to measure programming impacts and participation
- Create displays, promotional materials and programming crafts
- Participate in content creation for media outlets and the PR Librarian as assigned
- Support staff with back of house library processes including courier, item maintenance, shelf inventory and deselection
Competency: Adept with computer software navigation, customer service, and attention to detail. Ability to understand and apply both District policies and Colorado library laws. Ability to solve practical problems and respond to routine requests.
Requirements
Work Environment: Inside support role, with occasional outside assignments. Regular interaction with other staff and the public. Operates phones, computers and office equipment.
Hours of Work: Hourly, Non-exempt Full-Time
The schedule requires two evening shifts per week and one weekend shift per month.
Required education and experience: Bachelor’s Degree, equivalent work experience or completion of apprenticeship. One year of customer service work experience.

Physical demands: Light physical effort in carrying and shelving books. Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping and reaching. Regular delivery of programming to teens.
Non-essential functions:
- Support staff in outreach service procedures and providing standard library services during outreach events, including bookmobile operations
- Transport mail to and from the post office and sort into appropriate inboxes
- Support other District libraries with youth programming as assigned
- Support parent and classroom orientation visits
