
Development Manager
Habitat for Humanity Vail Valley is seeking a talented professional to serve as its Development Manager in support of its mission to partner with local families to build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.
The Development Manager is responsible for facilitating and implementing fundraising campaigns that meet the long and short range goals of the organization. The primary objective of this position is to contribute to the development and execution of fundraising strategies and campaigns aligned with the organization’s strategic plan, monitor progress toward fundraising and strategic goals and conducting research to identify new funding prospects, including individuals, corporations, foundations, and government sources.
This position demands the ability to cultivate and steward donor partnerships and other relationships, comfort engaging with donors and potential donors, excellent written and oral communications skills, and strong time management and organization skills.
Job Duties
Fundraising
Contribute to the development and execution of fundraising strategies and campaigns aligned with the organization’s strategic plan.
Monitor progress toward fundraising and strategic goals, identifying and addressing roadblocks as they arise.
Collaborate with the development team to develop and monitor the annual fundraising budget and cash flow projections.
Design, implement, and continuously improve fundraising systems, processes, and tools to increase operational efficiency, support team effectiveness, and enhance donor engagement.
Develop and manage comprehensive project plans for fundraising initiatives, including timelines, task assignments, and resource requirements.
Create and implement individualized action plans for each prospect, including strategies for engagement and solicitation.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records and tracking systems to support portfolio management and team coordination.
Relationship Building & Stewardship
Develop and manage a portfolio of prospects and donors, guiding them through the full donor lifecycle: identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
Cultivate and steward strong, long-term relationships with current and prospective donors, with a focus on mid-level to major and recurring gifts.
Grants Management + Events
In collaboration with the Development Coordinator, develop the annual grants budget and oversee the preparation and submission of grant proposals to Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI), Habitat for Humanity Colorado (HFHC), governmental agencies, foundations, and corporate partners.
Provide strategic support for the annual Carpenters’ Ball fundraising event, with an emphasis on engaging mid-level to major donors.
Assist with other donor cultivation and stewardship events as needed.
Skills + Experience
Excellent written and oral communications skills
Ability to be aware of and understand all aspects of the organization
Ability to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments, and meet deadlines
Ability to cultivate and steward donor partnerships and other relationships
Proven relationship-building skills
Grant writing
Understanding of marketing best practices
Basic ability to develop and manage a budget
Comfort engaging with donors and potential donors
Strong time management and organization skills
Bachelor's Degree or 3-5 years in related field preferred (Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Communications, Business, or Social Sciences)
3-5 years working in fundraising and grant writing with a commensurate non-profit organization
Previous experience managing a portfolio of donors
Previous experience managing a budget
Previous nonprofit experience preferred
Software Skills Desired – Office 365 and CRM database experience preferred
Compensation & Benefits offered include health insurance, life insurance, retirement plan with 6% employer match, up to 6 weeks of vacation, holiday, and sick time, paid medical leave and more.
The salary range for this position is currently $72,512 – $90,640 annually. Initial compensation is determined based on the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience.
