Hiring Range: $67,105-$80,526. The max pay for this position is $93,946. 

The Eagle County Department of Human Services (ECDHS) Children, Family and Adult Services Division (CFAS) Caseworker I - El Jebel is responsible for protecting children and vulnerable adults from abuse, neglect, and exploitation in Western Eagle County. The CFAS Caseworker I - El Jebel is considered to be a generalist caseworker position, which includes conducting child welfare investigations, ongoing child welfare casework and adult protection casework.

Colorado Realistic Social Caseworker Job Preview

Essential Functions

  • Promote safety, permanency and well-being for children
  • Complete individual and family assessments for safety concerns and risk factors
  • Coordination of services to promote increased caregiver protective capacities, safety for children, youth and vulnerable adults to remain in the family unit and/or community when possible
  • Build positive relationships with families and provide psychoeducation about age-appropriate parenting, child development and trauma-informed care
  • Document case notes enter required data into statewide databases and write reports in a timely and professional manner.
  • Understand and assure compliance with all applicable state, federal and local rules and regulations related to child welfare.
  • Write detailed and articulate reports that will be shared with the court and larger multi-disciplinary team.
  • Interface directly with clients in homes, schools and other community settings, sometimes outside of normal working hours.
  • Create SMART treatment plans with families.
  • Collaborate with extended family members, law enforcement, schools, medical professionals, mental health providers, courts and other community partners.
  • Engage clients despite challenging circumstances with the goal of mitigating safety and risk.
  • Engage with clients who are experiencing substance abuse issues, domestic violence, sexual abuse, mental health concerns and/or other complex trauma.
  • Respond to after-hours safety concerns on a rotating basis with other staff.
  • Complete initial training requirements for the electronic benefits transfer system (EBT).
  • Understand and deliver economic services to community members by issuing electronic benefits transfer (EBT).
  • Provide team members support and coverage in and out of the office to ensure the community is being served at a high level.
  • Complete at least 40 hours of ongoing training annually provided by the Colorado Department of Human Services to maintain child welfare case worker certification and other training resources.
  • Complete at least 10 hours of ongoing training annually provided by the Colorado Department of Human Services to maintain adult protection case worker certification.

Qualifications

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification, or Registration:

  • A Bachelor's degree with a major in a human behavioral science field is required. A Master’s degree in the human behavioral science field is preferred.
    • In order to meet the minimum educational requirements of a human behavioral science degree, the applicant must have a degree with major coursework (equivalent to 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours) in either development of human behavior, child development, family intervention techniques, diagnostic measure or therapeutic techniques such as social work, psychology, sociology, guidance and counseling, and child development from an accredited institution.
  • One year of professional casework, case management, or human services experience in a public or private human services agency acquired after a degree is required.
  • Three years of professional casework, case management, or human services experience in a public or private human services agency acquired after a degree is preferred.
  • Completion from the Colorado Department of Human Services New APS and CPS Caseworker Academy is required as a condition of continued employment. Successful demonstration of the competencies identified in training will be determined by pre and post-tests, structured on-the-job training activities, trainer observation, and verification by the county department as outlined in the request for certification. This training must be completed and certification received prior to assuming primary trainee duties with supervisory and/or coaching support, or social caseworker duties on an independent basis as prescribed by the state. Travel within the State may be required to obtain training.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, and a satisfactory motor vehicle record. Must not have any major violations, nor more than one DUI, DWI, DWAI conviction in the past three years.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
  • Ability to pass a background investigation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Exemplary interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate and motivate people.
  • Ability to handle crises and effectively work with customers of all ages from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds under at times highly stressful conditions.
  • Strong knowledge of community resources, ability to identify potential new service providers and the skills to link families with appropriate agencies and services.
  • Knowledge of Early Head Start and/or Public Assistance programs – preferred
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information and immediately identify any potential conflict of interest concerns and escalate to the Supervisor.
  • Ability to balance and manage competing priorities and effectively work multiple cases concurrently while accomplishing other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Proven ability to write concise, accurate and timely reports and make oral presentations.
  • High degree of organization particularly in terms of case file/notes management.
  • Working knowledge of state (specifically Colorado) human services databases/systems including TRAILS, ROM, ETO, CBMS, and CAPS - preferred.
  • Basic proficiency with MS Office and Google G Suite.
  • Develop and maintain subject matter expertise in assigned areas via self-directed and Department-sponsored research and learning.
  • Ability to research, read and interpret documents such as program rules, policy documents, standard operating procedures and court and legal documents.
  • Culturally competent customer service approach that is empathetic, non-judgmental, respectful, and professional to clients and colleagues.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) language skills – highly preferred. The bilingual skillset will be tested.
